Burkina/Center: A public conference to promote peace and social cohesion

Ouagadougou: The Ministry of Territorial Administration, Decentralization and Security (MATDS) organized a public conference on Tuesday to promote peace and living together in the Central region. .According to the Minister of Territorial Administration, Decentralization and Security, Emile Zerbo, the initiative to organize this regional week demonstrates the desire of actors in the Central region to promote living together, peace and security in Burkina Faso.'Our country is facing a multidimensional crisis marked by a failure in the construction of the nation-state since decolonization,' he said.Mr. Zerbo spoke on Tuesday in Ouagadougou, during the public conference of the 2nd edition of the Central Regional Living Together Week (SRVC).The regional week is on the theme: 'Strengthening social cohesion: A guarantee of restoration of peace and security in the Central region' and is being held from May 20 to 26, 2024.For Emile Zerbo, the conference is an opportunity for exchanges and sharing of fruitful experiences on the promotion of living together.'This conference invites us to think collectively about the concrete measures that we can take to promote harmonious living together in our region,' continued the Minister in charge of Decentralization.He added that the regional week of living together participates in the implementation of pillar 4 of the Action Plan for the stabilization and development of the Transition which is 'to work towards national reconciliation and social cohesion'.'Its ambition is to bring the active forces of the Central region to make their contribution to building a prosperous, socially enviable and economically viable region,' maintained Minister Zerbo.The governor of the Center region, Abdoulaye Bassinga, recalled that his region intends to make its contribution by organizing this public conference.'So that we can agree hand in hand and transcend our partisan differences to speak with one voice, and the only voice is the peace that we want and you know that the highest authorities are deploying all the days of efforts to bring peace,' he said.'You know that our country is going through a very complicated humanitarian security situation which has weakened the social fabric and we absolutely need to come together,' added Mr. Bassinga.For him, living together must be concrete actions and for this he invited the actors to work to strengthen social cohesion.The speaker, Hassan Sawadogo, specified that in view of the current context of the country, they built communication on the central idea of basing and building social cohesion on endogenous values.'We have lost a certain number of values which kept our society cohesive and living together harmoniously. We will recall these values which are essentially those of unity, solidarity, hospitality and also fraternity,' noted Mr. Sawadogo.According to him, the speakers will take into account a certain number of elements which are contained in the national social cohesion strategy which was developed to support all the actor s in the country who are concerned about this issue.The 2nd edition of the Center Regional Living Together Week (SRV-C), being held from May 20 to 26, 2024, aims to work to strengthen inter- and intra-community cohesion in the Center region and contribute to national unity.Source: Burkina Information Agency
