Ouagadougou: The South West region commemorated the Day of the African Child on June 19, 2024 in Dano under the presidency of the High Commissioner of Ioba, Bernadette Adenyo née Sermé.It was the commune of Dano which hosted the delayed celebration of the 34th African Child Day (ADD) in the South-West region.The JEA was commemorated this year under the national theme: 'Problem of the protection and promotion of the rights of the family and the child in a context of security and humanitarian crises'.The ceremony took place in the presence of heads of family services, Plan International's southwest/Gaoua regional branch and the NGO Compassion International.Children from other provinces of the South-West, namely Bougouriba, Noumbiel and Poni, were present at this commemoration.The official ceremony was marked by several interventions and performances by children and a musician.A troupe of children from evangelical churches and that of the Germain Nadal Catholic primary school in Dano amazed the publi c through a play, traditional dagara and bwaba dance and a sketch on divine recommendations for well-being of the child.The provincial president of the Ioba children's parliament, Serges Ayoro, praised the effort of parents in the education of their offspring. However, he stressed that children need even more support from parents in a situation of security and humanitarian crises.For him, children must also respect their duty.This translates, among other things, into obedience and obtaining good academic results to be the pride of the entire nation.Mr. Ayoro called on provincial authorities to revitalize the children's parliament.The prefect, president of the special delegation of the commune of Dano, Denis Zanré, noted that the family is facing enormous challenges today, aggravated by a difficult security and humanitarian context. This is why he encourages parents to be more enthusiastic and resilient in supporting their children through the positive parenting approach.According to him, this appr oach allows for a relationship of trust and an exemplary model towards children.For the director of Plan International's southwest regional branch / Gaoua, Clément Méda, the government of Burkina Faso is working to ensure quality and inclusive education for all the country's children even in emergency situations. Mr. Méda maintains that this is an opportunity to meet with all stakeholders to review all the actions carried out to allow children to enjoy their rights. He noted that for five years, Plan International has been working with the services in charge of humanitarian action to strengthen national systems and community mechanisms for the protection and promotion of children's rights in the South-West region.As for the representative of the NGO Compassion Internationale, Lassina Toé, indicated that the vision of this organization is the protection of children.'Every child must be known, loved and protected', this is the primary objective of the NGO Compassion according to Mr. Toé.Compassion Inter national seeks to empower children to be responsible adults for the nation.This is why the NGO supports education that impacts lives in order to bring about real grassroots change with children, he added.The high commissioner of Ioba province, Bernadette Adenyo / Sermé, said that in the South-West region, the theme chosen for the commemoration of Children's Day is: "positive parenting as a lever for protecting children." children against violence in a context of security and humanitarian crises'.This theme calls on all parents to play a major role in protecting their children, she stressed.
