Ouagadougou: Education stakeholders looked into the phenomenon of school dropouts during the work of the forum on education in the province of Bazèga, held on Friday, August 30, 2024 in Kombissiri. Making commitments and formulating recommendations for a reduction of the phenomenon was the objective of the forum.The provincial directorate of primary and non-formal preschool education (DPEPPNF) of Bazèga in the Centre-South region organized its second forum on education under the theme: "School dropouts in the province of Bazèga: Involvement of communities to resolve the phenomenon". According to figures from the DPEPPNF of Bazèga, the dropout rate increased from 2.23% in 2019 to 4.42%= in 2024.According to the provincial director of primary and non-formal preschool education of Bazèga, Claude Ouédraogo, the holding of the forum aims to enable stakeholders in the province to develop strategies to resolve the phenomenon.For the sponsor, Dr Marcel Guigma, Director General of Quality of Formal Education, sc hool dropouts constitute a major challenge for the education system in Burkina Faso, thus hindering development efforts and social progress.It is imperative, he continues, that sustainable solutions are found to this problem by focusing on the active involvement of local communities.The work of the forum thus allowed participants from all over the province to make resolutions and formulate recommendations which will contribute to the achievement of the objectives of improving the quality indicators of education at the level of Bazèga.Among the resolutions, the participants committed, among other things, to strengthening the support and educational supervision of teachers, while creating frameworks for sharing experiences and good practices and promoting endogenous school canteens and income-generating activities for mother educators with the involvement of the community and local authorities.The president of the special delegation of the commune of Toécé, Harouna Nana, representing the High Commission er of the province, welcomed the holding of the forum and invited each actor in his sphere of responsibility to be enlightened leaders, informed and committed actors for the effective realization of the commitments made.At the end of the work, the education actors of the province made an appointment for the next forum in 2025.Source: Burkina Information Agency
