Burkina/Floods: over 16,000 people affected in 9 regions and 415 hectares of fields destroyed

The Burkinabe government informed Wednesday during the Council of Ministers that the floods, as of September 12, 2024, destroyed 415 hectares of crop fields and caused the loss of 4,106 domestic animals, which caused 16,568 people to be affected in 9 regions of the country."As of September 12, 2024, out of the 13 regions in the country, 9 have recorded floods with floods spread across urban, semi-urban centers and villages in the affected municipalities," said the Minister in charge of humanitarian action, Nandy Somé/Diallo.The minister in charge of humanitarian action spoke in an oral communication during the council of ministers this Wednesday, September 25, 2025 in Ouagadougou.According to her, the Sahel region is the most affected, particularly the commune of Gorom-Gorom which recorded 9 cases of flooding, followed by the East with the commune of Fada N'Gourma where 6 localities were affected.These floods caused loss of life, injuries and psychological shock due to the destruction of habitats, ma terial goods and other agro-sylvo-pastoral resources.From the first alerts, local authorities set up evacuation and relief measures that made it possible to shelter the disaster-stricken populations who also benefited from food and non-food items from the National Council for Emergency Relief and Rehabilitation (CONASUR), stressed Minister Nandy Somé.Source: Burkina Information Agency
