Green climate agenda for African countries is akin to neocolonialism, Putin

cilities, which is clearly impossible due to their high cost, is a form of neocolonialism, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday.

The Russian leader recalled the instrumentalization of the climate agenda and the demand to abandon nuclear power, coal and hydrocarbons.

“Has anyone done the math: can Africa do without this type of hydrocarbons or not? No, modern tools and technologies are being imposed on African and other emerging countries, which may be effective from the point of view of environmental protection,” Putin explained.

“But they can’t buy them, they don’t have money! Well, give them money then, but nobody gives them money,” the Russian president added.

“They are belittling these countries and making them dependent on Western technologies and loans again. The loans are given on terrible terms, it is impossible to repay them. This is a new instrument of neocolonialism,” the Russian leader concluded.
