OUAGADOUGOU: Officials of the association of victims of the popular uprising of 2014, the coup d'état of September 2015 and the injured of these two events, expressed, Thursday in Ouagadougou, their satisfaction for the start of compensation and support for the people.According to Burkina Information Agency, the spokesperson for the Union of Families of Martyrs of the Popular Uprising of October 30 and 31, 2014, Babou Nébon Bamouni, acknowledged the solidarity from the people around the victims and their families. He noted that while some individuals have begun receiving compensation, others are still waiting. This statement was made during the official ceremony of homage to the martyrs and wounded of the popular uprising of October 30 and 31, 2014, and the coup d'état of 2015.Bamouni expressed that although progress had been made, much work remains. He acknowledged the efforts of all stakeholders in supporting and compensating the victims. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that all victims are com pensated to help their families continue living and aid the injured in their recovery, both physically and mentally.Issouf Nacanabo, an injured victim from the uprising, mentioned that compensation for the wounded began in early 2024, marking an end to over nine years of waiting. He expressed optimism that the process would conclude with comprehensive compensation for all injured individuals. Conversely, Sidpawalmdé Paul Ouédraogo, injured in the 2015 coup, is still awaiting compensation. Despite being granted a knighthood of the national order, he lamented the lack of progress in receiving financial compensation.Ouédraogo expressed frustration over the delay, stating that all necessary documentation had been submitted, yet there remains an unexplained blockade in the process. He hoped that compensation for victims of the 2015 coup would soon commence, similar to the progress seen for the insurrection victims.The former High Council for Reconciliation and National Unity (HCRUN) had previously developed a compensation scale for victims of both the popular uprising and the failed coup. This scale, based on the degree of disability of the injured, ranges from 1,500,000 to 9 million CFA francs. The number of injured from the late October 2014 uprising was estimated at over 600, while the failed coup d'état resulted in more than 200 injuries, as per data from the ministry in charge of humanitarian action.
