Yako: The Atlas Lions of Morocco celebrated a significant triumph on Friday as El Alouani Driss secured a stage victory in Yako, marking the third win for the team since the commencement of the Tour du Faso 2024. This victory further solidifies the Moroccan team's presence in the competition.According to Burkina Information Agency, El Alouani Driss impressively completed the 116.160km stretch from Ouagadougou to Yako in 2 hours, 38 minutes, and 59 seconds, maintaining an average speed of 43.838km/h. He finished ahead of Russian cyclist Anton Popov and Belgian Lance De Cabooter by 9 and 10 seconds respectively. Burkinabe cyclist Souleymane Koné, the first local to finish the stage, arrived 7th, 11 seconds behind Driss. Initially, there seemed to be no indication of Morocco's victory, as cyclists from Burkina Faso, Russia, and Belgium actively led the race.At Sabtenga, an early breakaway attempt involved six riders, including four from Burkina Faso. Among them were Harouna Ilboudo, the captain of the Etalon s Cyclistes, Rémi Sowou from Benin, and Kossoko Sadikou Jérémie from Cameroon. Despite their efforts, they were eventually caught, but another group, including Harouna Ilboudo, De Boes Timmy from Belgium, and two Burkinabe cyclists, attempted a subsequent breakaway at Yaktenga.The Moroccan team then orchestrated a strategic pursuit of the escapees. Russian cyclist Anton Popov seized the first intermediate sprint at Laye, outpacing Belgian Timmy De Boes and Malian Tiémoko Diallo. Harouna Ilboudo continued to display tenacity, clinching the second hot spot at Arbolé before the breakaway was reeled in.Belgian De Boes made another daring escape, building a 52-second lead. However, the pace set by the Russian team closed the gap 15 km from Yako. Seizing this moment, El Alouani Driss launched a decisive attack just 200 meters from the finish, securing the win with a remarkable solo effort.This victory in Yako follows Morocco's earlier successes in Tenkodogo and Banfora. El Kouradji Mohcine, wearing the yellow jersey, remains well-protected, trailing behind his compatriots El Alouani Driss and El Arbaoui Adil by 11 and 16 seconds, respectively. Cameroonian Kamzong Abossolo Clovis and Burkinabe Bamassi Soulama are positioned further behind in the standings.El Alouani Driss now dons the green points jersey, surpassing Russia's Anton Popov, while Mamyr Stash of Russia leads in the hot points category, ahead of Cameroon's Kossoko Sadikou Jérémie. Morocco maintains its position as the leading team of the Tour, ahead of Cameroon, the Flanders team of Belgium, and Burkina Faso's national A team. The penultimate stage of the competition, covering 145.800km, is set to take place on Saturday between Kombissiri and Kaya.
