OUAGADOUGOU: After successfully regaining control of more than 70% of its national territory, the Burkinabe army has reiterated its commitment to combating terrorism. This declaration was made on Friday during the 64th anniversary celebration of the army's establishment, where officials emphasized their resolve to eliminate threats that aim to disrupt the peace among the populace.According to Burkina Information Agency, Brigadier General Kassoum Coulibaly, the Minister of State in charge of Defense, expressed the army's renewed dedication to the aspirations of Burkinabe citizens. He highlighted the people's desires to live without oppression and interference. The Minister assured that the army's loyalty to these aspirations remains steadfast.Brigadier General Coulibaly emphasized the unwavering commitment of the armed forces to continue the liberation efforts initiated by their predecessors. He noted that this resolve is shared by the armies of neighboring Niger and Mali. Together, they aim to eradicate e lements of terrorism that threaten the Alliance of Sahel States (AES).The commemoration was themed "National armed forces, more loyal than ever, committed and determined for the liberation of the national territory in the affirmation of the sovereignty and independence of Burkina Faso." In his address, the Minister of Defense also discussed efforts to align military conduct with the values and service expected by the Burkinabe people.General Coulibaly encouraged fellow soldiers to celebrate the army's achievements and honor those who have fallen in battle. He underscored the importance of maintaining morale and not succumbing to despair, as it would dishonor the sacrifices made by the martyrs.In addition to the declarations of resolve, the Minister highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance the military's operational capabilities through the acquisition of new equipment. During the commemoration, 38 members of the Armed Forces were recognized for their service, along with a 12-year-old named Tasseré Ouédrao go. This young hero received the firefighters' medal of honor, gold category, for his role in rescuing a six-year-old girl from a deep well.
