Vranso 3 Local Water Committee: Beneficial Work on the Ground Since Its Establishment.

Réo: The Local Water Committee (CLE) Vranso 3 convened for its first general assembly of 2024 on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, chaired by the High Commissioner of the province of Sanguié, Talari Germaine Ouoba. During this assembly, statutory members reviewed the results of activities from 2023 and laid out plans for 2024.According to Burkina Information Agency, in her opening remarks, the High Commissioner, who also serves as the President of CLE Vranso 3, expressed her gratitude and appreciation for the efforts made by all stakeholders in protecting and managing water resources in the Vranso 3 area. She acknowledged the support and various initiatives undertaken by these stakeholders, including the Mouhoun Water Agency and Eau Vive Internationale in partnership with the NGO Help.In their brief collaboration within the CLE space, significant activities have been executed, such as enhancing the capacities of the CLE, training 150 producers from six municipalities, and implementing concrete actions like refo restation. Among the notable activities were the removal of invasive plants over seven hectares at the Seboun dam and the cleaning of nearly four kilometers.Looking ahead, CLE Vranso 3 plans to maintain the dam embankment and engage in cleaning the Goundi dam, with Eau Vive Internationale having already completed feasibility studies.Contextually, Burkina Faso initiated a reform process in the mid-1990s to redefine the institutional framework of the water sector, adopting Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) to address water-related challenges. Consequently, the CLE Vranso 3 was established in 2018 by a decree from the governor of the Central-West region to safeguard the Vranso watercourse, Tiogo classified forest, and part of the forest corridor within the CLE Vranso 3 management area. These resources face significant anthropogenic, animal pressures, and the adverse effects of climate change.
