Burkina Centre-West Launches Burkinabe Heritage Month to Promote National Unity

Koudougou: The Center-West region of Burkina Faso initiated the third edition of Burkinabe Heritage Month in Koudougou with an event on Friday. The event featured the broadcast of a message delivered by President of the Transition, Ibrahim Traor©, in Bobo-Dioulasso.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the opening ceremony took place at the Governorate Square and was attended by prominent regional figures. The launch included two significant events: the raising of the national flag at 7:30 a.m. and a speech by interim governor, Adama Jean Yves B©r©. In his address, the governor highlighted that Heritage Month, which was established in April 2023, aims to enhance a sense of national identity by promoting cultural heritage.

The governor also conveyed the message from the Head of State, which emphasized the theme of "Cultural Heritage and Economic Development" for the 2025 edition. President Traor© encouraged the citizens of Burkina Faso to embrace their cultural heritage as a fundamental component for national unity and development. He underscored the necessity of preserving traditions, knowledge, and places of memory, and called upon media and intellectuals to engage more actively in this cause.

The interim governor urged the Centre-West residents to take an active part in the scheduled activities for Heritage Month. These activities include conferences on domestic tourism, wearing traditional Koko Dunda and Faso Dan Fani outfits in government offices, a sanitation day, and tourist excursions. This month-long celebration aims to promote local cultural assets and serve as a catalyst for sustainable economic development.
