ECOWAS Agricultural Policy Meeting Reviews 2024 Activities and Challenges

Lomé: Members of the Strategic Orientation Committee of the ECOWAS Regional Agency for Agriculture and Food (RAAF) convened in Lomé, Togo, to deliberate on the 2024 activity report and financial execution for the 2024 fiscal year. This gathering marked the twelfth meeting of the Steering Committee since RAAF's inception in 2013.According to African Press Organization, this governance body serves as a crucial platform for accountability, experience sharing, and strategic guidance. The meeting provided RAAF the opportunity to present two key reports for the Committee's evaluation: the 2024 activity report and the proposed 2025 budget, alongside the financial report for the 2024 financial year. For 2024, the primary challenges impacting the implementation of projects and programs were identified as the security crisis in the Sahel region, which hinders access to project areas, and the withdrawal of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger from ECOWAS. While these countries' participation has been integral in project imp lementation, more effective solutions are necessary. Mrs. Massandjé Touré-Litsé, ECOWAS Commissioner for Economic Affairs and Agriculture, assured that regional authorities are actively working on resolving these issues.
