Sissili: The village of Dangu, nestled in the commune of Boura within Sissili province, became the focal point of a significant mediation and reconciliation meeting on Thursday, August 20, 2026. This meeting, initiated by the Boura prefecture, followed the killing of a herder by a young farmer and aimed to foster dialogue and forgiveness among the communities. Administrative, traditional, religious, and security authorities participated, pledging to prioritize forgiveness, communication, and peaceful coexistence.According to Burkina Information Agency, the tragedy unfolded on Saturday, August 15, 2026, stemming from a dispute over field destruction by animals, leading to the death of the Fulani herder at the hands of a Sissala farmer. In a bid to defuse tensions and avert escalation, a comprehensive administrative and technical delegation, led by Prefect Judith Diasso/Kanyala, visited the site.The delegation included heads from technical services for livestock and agriculture, along with Defense and Secur ity Forces (FDS) and Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP). Their mission coincided with the arrival of the Fulani chief of Lo, Mor Diallo, dispatched by His Majesty Lio-Pio Dan-Zwè, canton chief of Lo, to promote communal harmony.During the meeting, PDS of Boura, Judith Diasso/Kanyala, conveyed condolences to the bereaved family on behalf of the High Commissioner of Sissili, Twind Isaac Sia, and highlighted the necessity of preserving social cohesion. Diasso/Kanyala emphasized the role of government representatives in managing community conflicts and stressed the importance of preventing future incidents through support from technical services.The head of the municipal administration advocated for ongoing dialogue to manage frictions and urged residents to prioritize communication and prevention of disputes. A call for respect towards elders and traditional authorities was also issued, particularly to the youth, to maintain peace.The family of the deceased herder expressed gratitude for the authorities' responsiveness and local leaders' involvement. They accepted forgiveness, acknowledging the village's unity and the wise leadership of the village chief, Kadio Konewa. Touched by the reconciliation efforts, Chief Konewa appreciated the positive discussions and announced continued awareness sessions to restore trust among communities.Chief Mor Diallo appealed for the abolition of private justice and respect for social hierarchy, urging dialogue and consultation.
