Ouagadougou: The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Burkina Faso, Egor Martynov, expressed his satisfaction on Thursday at seeing the Burkinabe people honor the memory of their national heroes, such as President Thomas Sankara, during a ceremony of remembrance at the Memorial that bears his name.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Ambassador Martynov noted that in Russia there is a tradition of commemorating heroes who contributed to the development of the country and who sacrificed their lives for national independence. He expressed his pleasure in observing that Burkina Faso shares this tradition.
For the Russian diplomat, today's ceremony holds particular significance, not only for the people of Burkina Faso, but also for the Russian people. He believes it could become a cherished tradition, where foreign delegations join Burkinabe authorities in paying homage to the country's founders and revolutionaries.
Speaking about Captain Thomas Sankara, the ambassador praised his commitment to the independence and development of Burkina Faso. "Thomas Sankara sacrificed his life for his country.
