Burkinabe Government Adopts Decree to Streamline Association and Union Documentation

Ouagadougou: The Burkinabe government has adopted a decree during a recent Council of Ministers meeting, specifying the necessary documentation for the declaration and authorization of national associations, trade unions, and foreign associations. This move outlines the steps required for these organizations to gain official recognition and operate within Burkina Faso.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the decree is an implementing text of Law No. 11-2025/ALT, which was enacted on July 17, 2025, concerning the freedom of association. The decree aims to clarify the administrative processes that organizations must follow to comply with the law. It details the documents required for the declaration of existence of national associations or trade unions, as well as procedures for renewing governing bodies, modifying constituent texts, or changing the scope of action.

The decree further outlines the requirements for foreign associations seeking authorization to operate, including the renewal of such permissions, changes in representatives or financial officers, and modifications to statutes. Additionally, it specifies the documentation needed for the declaration of existence of a union or a merger of associations, and for the recognition of public utility.

Each type of application involves a specific set of supporting documents that must be provided by the concerned associations and unions. The government's adoption of this decree is intended to operationalize the law on freedom of association, ensuring that organizations can navigate the legal framework efficiently.
