Ouagadougou: The Ministry of Basic Education, Literacy and the Promotion of National Languages (MEBAPLN) has instructed those in charge of educational structures to ensure strict compliance with the wearing of protective helmets by any person travelling on a motorcycle in school establishments.According to Burkina Information Agency, in correspondence no. 2026-00542/MEBAPLN/SG, dated September 10, 2026, the Secretary General of the Ministry, Ibrahima Sanon, invites the heads of structures and promoters of private primary schools to take "all necessary measures" to ensure compliance with this legal obligation.The ministry reiterates that, as part of improving road safety, "wearing a helmet is an absolute priority" and is among the most effective ways to prevent head injuries resulting from traffic accidents.The measure applies to teaching and administrative staff, students, and any employee traveling by motorcycle. The correspondence specifies that access to administrative buildings is conditional upon w earing a helmet for those concerned.MEBAPLN also asks educational and administrative staff, who are called upon to serve as role models for learners, to be "the first to scrupulously observe this obligation".This instruction comes as the Ministry of Security has been conducting awareness campaigns across the country for several months to strengthen compliance with traffic rules and the protection of road users.
