Banzon PDS Calls for Increased School Enrollment in Souroukoulogo

Kndougou:The president of the special delegation (PDS) of the commune of Banzon, Si Poda, has called on parents in the Fulani camp of Souroukoulogo to enroll their children in school to secure a better future for them.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this appeal was made during an awareness session organized by the Basic Education District (CEB) of Banzon, in collaboration with the Souroukoulogo Students' Association. The session aimed to foster greater parental involvement in children's education.

At the meeting's outset, Jean Ernest Sanon, Head of the Basic Education District of Banzon, highlighted the troubling issue of low enrollment at the Souroukoulogo public primary school despite its academic achievements. Last year, only two students enrolled in first grade, causing its closure, although all 13 candidates passed the Primary School Leaving Certificate exam. This year, only nine students are in the fifth grade. He urged parents to enroll children aged six to eight to keep the school operational.

Si Poda stressed the importance of education for personal and community development, stating that it equips children with essential skills for societal contribution. He encouraged parents to prioritize and support their children's education, emphasizing that missing school opportunities equates to missed future prospects.

Amidou Sidib, speaking for the parents, praised the initiative and confirmed the community's commitment to enrolling all eligible children. He also highlighted the challenges related to water access in the area.

In response, the PDS assured that water access issues were under consideration and reiterated the importance of education for infrastructure development. Additionally, it reminded the public about the forthcoming mandatory helmet law for motorcyclists and passengers, effective October 1, 2026.
