Hound:Tuy: The Tuy province in the Guiriko region has made significant progress in agricultural, forestry, livestock, and fisheries sectors as part of the national food sovereignty movement. This movement was initiated under the leadership of Captain Ibrahim Traor©, President of Burkina Faso, following his ascension to power on September 30, 2022.
According to Burkina Information Agency, key achievements include the development of rice-growing areas in Karaba, located in sector 1 of Hound. These developments, part of the Agro-Pastoral and Fisheries Offensive (OAPH) and funded by the Agricultural Resilience and Competitiveness Project (PReCA), began in 2024 and expanded in 2025.
A total of 150 hectares of lowland areas have been developed in Karaba. Karaba 1 covers 70 hectares with 271 plots, Karaba 2 spans 30 hectares with 126 plots, and Karaba Extension includes 50 hectares with 200 plots. By 2025, the expected rice production across these sites is 700 tons. The sites are equipped with high-capacity boreholes to facilitate market gardening during the dry season.
In the fisheries sector, the Boby dam in sector 3 of Hound underwent a stocking operation on November 19, 2025, with the introduction of 10,000 fingerlings, including tilapia. This initiative aims to replenish the dam, boost fish supply to markets, and enhance fishermen's incomes. Fishing activities at the dam resumed on March 1, 2026.
The livestock sector in Tuy province benefited from the 2025-2026 animal vaccination campaign against several priority diseases. Conducted from October 2025 to March 2026, the campaign targeted diseases such as Newcastle disease, peste des petits ruminants (PPR), contagious bovine pleuropneumonia, bacterial anthrax (CB), foot-and-mouth disease (FMD), fowlpox (FHD), pasteurellosis of small ruminants, lumpy skin disease of cattle (LSD), and rabies. Over 1,044,200 animals were vaccinated, aiming to protect livestock and enhance the profitability of livestock farming, while ensuring the availability of quality animal products.
