Ouagadougou: The Baskuy health district has successfully organized a series of sporting competitions as part of its second edition of the Days of Excellence, held from June 8 to 11, 2026. These events were aimed at strengthening social cohesion among health workers and promoting good health practices.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the event, celebrated under the themes of excellence, solidarity, and unity, featured various civic, sporting, and health activities. The festivities commenced with the raising of the national flag at the district health headquarters on June 8th, followed by health-related initiatives like screening for precancerous cervical lesions and a blood donation drive for the Combat Forces.
The sporting events, which included aerobics and both women's and men's football matches, were a major highlight. The men's team from district no. 2 emerged victorious over district no. 1 with a score of one goal to zero, clinching the trophy for the 2026 edition. In the women's competition, district no. 1 triumphed over their opponents in a penalty shootout, winning 2 to 1.
The matches were intensely contested at the stadium 4 pitch in Ouagadougou, providing an exciting spectacle for the spectators, including Dr. Natogma Ursule Bambara, head of the Baskuy health district.
According to Dr. Bambara, the Chief Medical Officer of the Baskuy Health District, these activities were designed to strengthen bonds among health workers and raise awareness about the importance of regular physical activity. She emphasized the inclusion of aerobics and football matches to convey the message that regular exercise is crucial for maintaining good health.
Dr. Bambara expressed satisfaction with the strong participation of both agents and the public, noting that the event's objectives were achieved. She highlighted the shared moments between health workers and the community as a powerful message in favor of community health improvement.
Ms. Bambara encouraged both staff and the public to integrate sports activities into their daily routines to reduce stress and enhance well-being. The event concluded on June 11 with a visit to the Thomas Sankara Memorial and a ceremony recognizing the district's best agents and health training at the arrondissement n°2 reception hall in Ouagadougou.
