ECOWAS on Sunday appointed Presidents Bassirou Diomaye Faye of Senegal and Faure Gnassingbé of Togo as its facilitators at the AES. General Umalo Sissoko of Guinea-Bissau has offered to take charge of the Burkina Faso file, the AIB has learned.ECOWAS on Sunday marked its 'disappointment' in the face of the lack of progress in engagements with the authorities of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger (AES).As part of a 'more vigorous approach', she appointed Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and his Togolese counterpart Faure Gnassingbé as her facilitators with the AES.The institution also accepted the offer of General Umaro Sissoco Embaló, President of the Republic of Guinea Bissau, to support engagement, particularly with Burkina Faso.Furthermore, the ECOWAS Commission was tasked with developing a forward-looking contingency plan to examine all eventualities in relations with the AES countries.As a reminder, Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger created the AES confederation on Saturday, reaffirming their co mmon desire to leave ECOWAS as announced at the end of January 2024.ECOWAS, which held an ordinary summit this Sunday, once again warned of the consequences that could result from this group exit, in particular restrictions on the free movement of people and goods.Source: Burkina Information Agency
