Bassitenga: Religious Communicators Equipped to Promote Peace in Times of Crisis

Bassitenga: The High Council for Communication (CSC) opened a training workshop on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, in Ziniare, on the theme: 'Interreligious Dialogue and the Promotion of Peace in Times of Crisis: What Contribution Can Religious Communicators and Faith-Based Media Make?' The activity aims to strengthen the commitment of religious actors to promoting social cohesion and living together in a challenging security context.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the president of the CSC, Louis Modeste Ouedraogo, stated that this training will help develop a common understanding of the role of religious communicators in peacebuilding. He emphasized the influential role of religious discourse and social communication in preserving peace and promoting interreligious dialogue, which he deemed essential for social cohesion.

Mr. Ouedraogo encouraged religious communicators and hosts of faith-based programs to prioritize messages of unity and tolerance on social media, highlighting the significant impact of their messages on behaviors and perceptions within communities. He noted that their voice can be a powerful tool for social cohesion.

The workshop benefits from the financial and technical support of the Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance (DCAF), a foundation under Swiss law of which Burkina Faso is a member. DCAF National Advisor Sadou Sidibe, present at the opening ceremony, mentioned that this initiative aligns with his institution's commitment to strengthening the capacities of civil society organizations and promoting inclusive governance.

Representing the governor of the Central Plateau region, the region's secretary general, Ibrahim Boly, expressed appreciation for the choice of Ziniare to host this event. He acknowledged the CSC's consistent attention to the region and extended an honorary welcome to the participants, suggesting that Ziniare holds a special place for such initiatives.

This training session in Ziniare is part of the CSC's ongoing efforts to further involve religious leaders and faith-based media in building lasting peace in Burkina Faso through dialogue, tolerance, and mutual respect.
