BIR 28 Creates Unity Through Sport and Strengthens the Army-Nation Bond

Ouagadougou: As part of the National Days of Patriotic Commitment and Citizen Participation (JEPPC), the 28th Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR 28) of Arbinda organized, from April 11 to 12, 2026, a sports and recreational competition aimed at promoting living together and strengthening the army-nation bond.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this initiative mobilized teams from several villages in the municipality, creating a framework for exchange, fraternity, and social cohesion among the participants. The activities kicked off on April 11th with an opening ceremony that included the presentation of the participating teams. The mini-maracana matches then took place in a friendly atmosphere, characterized by team spirit and fair play. Alongside these, board games were organized, offering the community moments of relaxation and socializing.

After two days of intense competition, the team of Volunteers for the Defence of the Homeland (VDP) from Arbinda won the final against that of the national gendarmerie, following penalty shootouts, after a scoreless draw (0-0) in regulation time. The commander of BIR 28 praised the support of his superiors and the strong mobilization of the people of Arbinda. He also expressed his gratitude to the organizers and volunteers for their commitment, which contributed to the event's success.

According to him, this activity not only revealed sporting talents but also strengthened relations between the defense and security forces and the civilian population. He emphasized that the bond between the armed forces and the nation has been further consolidated. The people, satisfied with the initiative, expressed the wish to see this type of activity continue in order to further promote social cohesion and community living within the municipality.
