Houet: The municipality of Bobo-Dioulasso officially launched its municipal digital television station, Bobo-Dioulasso TV, on Saturday, September 12, 2026. This new local media outlet aims to strengthen the municipality's communication and promote its development activities.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the launch ceremony, presided over by the municipal authorities, brought together several personalities, including representatives of administrative, customary, religious, military and paramilitary authorities, economic and cultural actors, young people, women, civil society organizations as well as media professionals. The president of the special delegation of the municipality of Bobo-Dioulasso, Laurent Kontogom, indicated that the creation of this television station is part of a desire to diversify the means of communication of the municipal institution.
He stated that Bobo-Dioulasso TV complements the municipal radio station's offerings, specifically targeting users of smartphones, tablets, computers, and connected televisions. The channel intends to serve as a "mirror" and a "showcase" for the municipality, Burkina Faso, Africa, and beyond.
The municipal digital television station will dedicate significant airtime to issues related to sanitation, road safety, tax compliance, citizenship, and local development. Culture, sports, fashion, the concerns of young people and women, the promotion of national languages, and major development projects are also among the announced topics.
Bobo-Dioulasso TV also aims to promote the history, sociology, traditions and customs of the city of Sya, while providing a space for promoting economic activities and commercial announcements.
The president of the High Council for Communication (CSC), Louis Modeste Oudraogo, welcomed this initiative, which he considers a genuine tool for local governance and development. He urged the channel's management to demonstrate professionalism, believing that communication can contribute to bringing people together, strengthening social cohesion, and consolidating peace.
"These are genuine tools of local governance," he said, stressing that radio and television are not only channels for information and entertainment, but also instruments that can contribute to economic and social development.
Comrade Oudraogo also called on the people of Bobo-Dioulasso, national actors and the diaspora to support the new channel, whose reach will extend beyond the borders of the commune thanks to the Internet.
For her part, the director of Bobo-Dioulasso TV, Safiatou Murielle Oudraogo, specified that the program schedule will cover several areas, including health, sanitation, taxation, local development and culture.
The channel will initially broadcast its programs from Monday to Sunday, from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., with shows and segments hosted by journalists and presenters, supported by a technical team responsible for production and broadcasting. Through this new digital television station, the municipality of Bobo-Dioulasso intends to strengthen its connection with citizens and make communication a tool for local development.
