Boulgou: The Association of Women in the Mining Sector of Burkina Faso (AFEMIB) conducted a capacity-building workshop on November 27 and 28, 2025, in Zabre, aimed at educating women and young people on local content mechanisms and the National Platform for the Promotion of Local Content. This initiative seeks to enhance their socio-economic integration into the mining sector's value chains.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the workshop brought together 25 participants from the municipality, focusing on empowering them with knowledge and skills to tap into opportunities within the mining sector. Edouard Nab Kambire, AFEMIB's program officer, expressed gratitude to Zabre's local authorities for hosting the event and acknowledged the support from partners, including the Project to Support the Strengthening of Land and Mine Management (PARGFM) and the Permanent Secretariat for Local Content in Mining and Quarrying.
Jacques Gouba, the first vice-president of the Zabre special delegation, highlighted the importance of AFEMIB's work, noting its significant impact on enabling women to benefit from the mining industry. He urged participants to engage actively in the training sessions.
Over the two-day workshop, participants, including women from the cooperatives of Youga and Zabre, learned about Local Content concepts, the associated legal frameworks, and the National Platform for the Promotion of Local Content. The workshop aimed to foster dialogue between women entrepreneurs and mining companies, identify challenges in the supply of goods and services, and propose solutions.
The training achieved its objectives, with participants gaining insights into business opportunities related to the mining sector and formulating recommendations to enhance access to purchasing opportunities. Participant Nematou Zaba expressed appreciation for the networking platform provided by AFEMIB, underscoring the collective strength derived from unity.
AFEMIB, established on December 3, 2000, continues to organize and empower women in Burkina Faso's mining sector.
