Burkina: Diomaye Faye is expected this Thursday in Ouagadougou, 9 years after the last visit of a Senegalese president

Ouagadougou: Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye is expected tomorrow Thursday in Ouagadougou for a working and friendship visit, 9 years after the last visit of his predecessor, Macky Sall, to Burkina Faso.

The information, first revealed by the AIB yesterday Tuesday then detailed this Wednesday by the Senegalese Press Agency, indicates that the Head of State of Senegal will visit Mali and Burkina Faso to strengthen historical and fraternal ties that exist between these countries.

‘These visits are part of a dynamic of strengthening historic ties of good neighborliness, fraternal friendship, solidarity and multifaceted cooperation,’ details the APS.

The agenda of the Senegalese head of state in Ouagadougou is not yet known to our sources. However, some analysts believe that he will discuss with his counterparts from Burkina Faso and Mali sub-regional subjects such as the CFA franc and the withdrawal of Burkina, Mali and Niger from ECOWAS.

Diomaye Faye maintained during his electoral campaign that
in the event of victory he would fight for the advent of a common and independent currency for the ECOWAS countries or a Senegalese national currency, if necessary.

His trip to Mali and Burkina comes after outings to the neighboring countries of Mauritania, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Ghana and even Nigeria.

The last visit of a Senegalese president to Burkina Faso dates back to September 2015. Macky Sall, then present in office of ECOWAS, came to mediation after the surprise interruption of the post-insurrection Transition by General Gilbert Diendéré.
