Burkina Faso and China: Strengthening Their Relations Based on Respect and Sovereignty


Ouagadougou: Eight years after the restoration of their diplomatic relations, Burkina Faso and the People’s Republic of China agreed on Tuesday to strengthen them in “mutual respect, sovereign equality of States, reciprocal benefits and shared development.”



According to Burkina Information Agency, on the occasion of the 8th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic relations between the two nations, a working session was held between China’s Ambassador to Burkina Faso, His Excellency Mr. Zhao Deyong, and Burkina Faso’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Mr. Karamoko Jean-Marie Traore. The session was dedicated to reviewing the state and future prospects of their strategic partnership.



The leaders acknowledged the significant progress made since May 26, 2018, in various priority sectors. They reaffirmed their commitment to continue strengthening cooperation under the leadership of China’s President Xi Jinping and Burkina Faso’s President Captain Ibrahim Traore. This cooperation focuses on mutual respect, the sovereign equality of States, and shared benefits.



Burkina Faso reiterated its steadfast commitment to the one-China principle, recognizing Taiwan as an integral part of Chinese territory and opposing any challenges to this principle. Meanwhile, China emphasized its support for Burkina Faso’s efforts in security, development, and national sovereignty preservation.



Both parties expressed their dedication to promoting a fairer and more balanced international order that respects state sovereignty and encourages solidarity, dialogue, and mutually beneficial cooperation for peace, development, and the well-being of their peoples.
