Ouagadougou: The Muslim community of Burkina Faso marked the Eid al-Adha festival under the guidance of Imam Abdallah Ou©draogo, who emphasized peace and the need to strengthen social cohesion. In a ceremony attended by a government delegation, including the Minister of Communication, Pingdwend© Gilbert Ou©draogo, and the Minister of Energy, Yacouba Zabr© Gouba, the Imam highlighted the importance of solidarity and sharing that are central to the festival.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Imam Abdallah Ou©draogo, in his sermon, called upon the Muslim faithful to intensify their prayers for peace and security’s return to Burkina Faso. He reminded the community of the Prophet’s recommendation regarding the sacrifice of sheep, explaining that the meat should be divided into three parts: one part for the family, another for relatives and acquaintances, and the final portion for those in need. The Imam also encouraged all Burkinabe, regardless of their religious beliefs, to seek divine intervention for the nation’s peace.
Representing the government, Minister of Communication Pingdwend© Gilbert Ou©draogo stated that the delegation’s presence underscored their solidarity with the Muslim community during this significant religious occasion. He reiterated the State’s commitment to secularism and peaceful coexistence among the different religious groups in Burkina Faso, speaking on behalf of President Captain Ibrahim Traor© and Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ou©draogo. ‘Burkina Faso is one and indivisible,’ he said, urging unity amid ongoing security challenges.
Minister Ou©draogo also expressed appreciation to the Defense and Security Forces for their efforts in reclaiming national territory and ensuring the population’s safety. The celebration was further enriched by the presence of Catholic and traditional authorities, who demonstrated their support for the Muslim community. The Apostolic Nuncio, Eric Savoguidi, praised the ongoing efforts in interreligious dialogue and advocated for increased fraternity among the nation’s citizens.
