Burkina Faso Health Minister Sets Example by Paying Personal Taxes

Ouagadougou: The Minister in charge of Health, Dr. Robert Lucien Jean-Claude Kargougou, set an example on Monday in Ouagadougou by fulfilling his tax obligations as part of the Tax Exemplarity Days, organized by the Directorate General of Taxes. Minister Kargougou has paid his residence tax and the motor vehicle tax (TVM), marking his commitment to promoting governance by example and strengthening the mobilization of internal resources, just hours before the legal deadline of March 31 for the payment of personal taxes.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the head of the Health Department expressed his satisfaction with this civic-minded act. He took the opportunity to reiterate the importance of tax compliance, which he considers an essential duty for every citizen. Dr. Kargougou also invited his colleagues to follow this example, wherever they are, stressing that paying taxes is an important contribution to mobilizing domestic resources, essential for the country's development.

For him, this commitment is part of the dynamic of strengthening national sovereignty and endogenous development, in accordance with the vision of the Head of State. The minister concluded by urging all healthcare personnel to respect the established deadlines for the payment of their taxes.

The Director of Tax Services at the Directorate General of Taxes, Augustin Kouela, indicated that the objective of these days is to strengthen tax compliance and encourage employees to follow the example of senior managers. 'When the top official sets an example, it motivates all employees to follow suit,' he said, highlighting the positive impact on the mobilization of internal resources.

Mr. Kouela also noted a growing enthusiasm for this initiative, which brings the tax administration closer to public institutions and citizens. He urged citizens to fulfill their tax obligations, including residence tax, TVM and property tax, before the March 31 deadline, in accordance with the law.

The Director of Tax Services concluded by encouraging the use of digital solutions to pay taxes, particularly mobile money, which facilitates procedures, allows for the immediate issuance of online receipts and helps to relieve the burden on tax services, reminding everyone that penalties apply in case of delay.
