Ouagadougou: In a significant move to honor the legacy of Captain Thomas Sankara, the father of the Burkinabe Revolution, authorities in Burkina Faso have launched the "My Brick for Sankara" initiative. This initiative, announced during the first military ceremony dedicated to Sankara, aims to secure endogenous funding for the Thomas Sankara Memorial.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Minister in charge of Communication, Pingdwende Gilbert Ouedraogo, emphasized the need for citizen participation to fund this ambitious project. The initiative seeks to ensure that the construction of the memorial, dedicated to Sankara and his twelve companions, becomes a reality and that their memories remain vibrant in the national consciousness.
Citizens are encouraged to make contributions through the "Faso Arzeka" platform, using conventional mobile money services or by visiting a permanent team that will soon be established on-site. This platform, commissioned by the government, facilitates a variety of transactions, making it easier for individuals to contribute to the memorial's construction.
The President of the Transitional Legislative Assembly expressed support for the initiative and called on all Burkinabe to actively participate. In addition to digital contributions, individuals have the option to make cash donations directly to the Thomas Sankara International Memorial Committee's on-site teams.
Efforts to promote the initiative will include a comprehensive communication campaign to ensure widespread awareness and participation across the country.
