Ouagadougou: The Burkinabe Copyright Office (BBDA) announced Tuesday during a press conference in Ouagadougou its participation in the 22nd edition of the National Culture Week (SNC), with several activities and a net budget of 14,565,804 FCFA to be distributed among its members.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Director General of the BBDA, Dr. Patric Lega, indicated that the SNC constitutes a strategic framework for intervention, as it allows for increased awareness of copyright issues, support for creators in a context marked by technological changes, and consolidation of dialogue with all actors in the cultural value chain.
Dr. Patric Lega stated, "We are approaching the 2026 edition with renewed ambition and a clearly defined strategic vision. The BBDA intends to deploy a rich, structured and innovative program, articulated around several major axes."
He specified that there would be a special distribution of the proceeds from the National Culture Week, amounting to 15,810,804 CFA francs. After deducting management fees and the levy for cultural promotion and social works, the net sum of 14,565,804 CFA francs would be distributed.
According to the Director General of BBDA, 50% of this sum, or 7,282,902 FCFA, will be allocated to the music and dance troupes invited to the SNC, and the remaining 50% will be distributed among the other categories, including musical troupes, dance groups, slam poetry, literature, and other disciplines.
He added that in addition to the distribution of rights, there will also be sustained animation of the off-stages, true spaces of proximity with the public, the organization of communications and awareness sessions on the mechanisms of collective management, as well as the enrollment of members in the CNAMU and the CNSS, reflecting the commitment to the social protection of artists.
Dr. Patric Lega indicated that during the previous edition of the SNC, the BBDA recorded significant results, both operationally and strategically, with a distribution of rights amounting to 17,802,493 FCFA to the benefit of the members, which demonstrates the relevance of the BBDA's action and the growing confidence of creators in the collective management system.
He invited all festival-goers, cultural professionals, partners, and the media to take an active part in the various activities of the BBDA. The Director General launched the social security system and the bank transfer of benefits payments, which is already underway, and invited all BBDA members to participate. The SNC 2026 conference will be held from April 25 to May 2.
