Ouagadougou: The Minister of Sports and Leisure, Roland Somda, has pledged to implement the ten recommendations from the recent national conference on sports and leisure to foster the development of Burkinabe sport.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Minister Somda emphasized that these recommendations should not be ignored or discarded. He assured that the proposals, crafted by the national organizing committee, would be actioned to enhance both the economic and social aspects of sport and leisure in Burkina Faso.

The minister delivered his remarks during the closing ceremony of the conference in Ouagadougou. He also expressed appreciation for the dedication and enthusiasm of the participants, acknowledging their contribution to the conference's success.

The recommendations include the operationalization of the national council for sport and leisure as mandated by law 060, enhancing the governance capacities of the ministry's structures, securing all sports spaces, and strengthening the legal framework. Additionally, there is a focus on reducing the reliance of sports stakeholders on state funding and organizing a donor round table to further support the sector.

Minister Somda highlighted the three days of intensive discussions and experience-sharing, which helped identify the issues affecting Burkinabe sport and leisure. He commended the participants for outlining actionable and forward-thinking strategies to elevate the sector's dignity and strategic importance in the country's development.

He concluded by noting that sport and leisure play a vital role in fostering respect, peace, and social cohesion within the community. The conference, held from April 9 to 12, 2025, revolved around the theme: "Development of sport and leisure in a context of territorial reconquest."
