Burkina Faso Withdraws From International Organization of La Francophonie

Ouagadougou: Burkina Faso has officially withdrawn from the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) as of February 28, 2025. The decision marks a significant shift in the nation's diplomatic relations and stance on international collaboration within the Francophonie community.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the government in Ouagadougou stated that the organization has deviated from its original mission of fostering cultural and technical cooperation. The OIF is now perceived as "a partial instrument of political manipulation," which has prompted Burkina Faso to sever its ties.

Ouagadougou expressed dissatisfaction, emphasizing that Burkina Faso cannot maintain cooperation with an institution that fails to uphold principles of justice, equality, and fairness. The statement also criticized the OIF's silence regarding other countries that have experienced similar political transitions, further justifying Burkina Faso's decision to leave.
