Ouagadougou: The Minister of National Education and the Promotion of National Languages, Jacques Sosth¨ne Dingara, expressed his satisfaction with the strong engagement of students in the pilot phase of the artistic and cultural month. This declaration follows his visit on Wednesday to three pilot schools in Ouagadougou, where he observed the enthusiasm and receptiveness of learners to the program's teachings.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Minister Dingara highlighted that the exhibitions showcased by students underscore the importance of the artistic and cultural month as a valuable complementary educational tool. The initiative has proven particularly effective for learners aged five to eleven, who have shown remarkable receptivity to this form of learning.
During his visit, the minister toured several workshops, including those focused on dyeing, drawing, basketry, and cooking, where students demonstrated the skills they acquired. The schools involved, including Nelson Mandela A, B, and C school block, as well as Wendpanga and Bendogo schools, displayed recreated scenes depicting traditional lifestyles, historical tools, and cultural practices unique to Burkina Faso.
Some schools conducted demonstrations that featured patriotic slogans, messages advocating for homeland protection, and expressions of joking kinship, which were presented as elements fostering social cohesion.
Minister Dingara stated, "The arts and culture month is an important activity that allows us to close out the school year by teaching children to use their hands, develop their creativity, and value their talents." He emphasized that this initiative extends beyond traditional school learning by equipping children with the ability to apply ingenuity in their everyday lives.
The minister also noted that the performances observed aid students in gaining a deeper understanding of their heritage, traditions, and ancestral skills. He believes that instilling a sense of Burkina Faso as a shared heritage from a young age fosters values of civic duty, patriotism, and peace among children.
Minister Dingara also pointed out that the insights gained from this pilot phase will be instrumental in preparing for its broader implementation across Burkina Faso. He acknowledged the valuable contributions of Forestry and Water Resources agents in educating students about the use of medicinal plants, environmental protection, and reforestation efforts.
This pilot phase of the Artistic and Cultural Month was inaugurated on June 15, 2026, in Bobo-Dioulasso and the Kadiogo region.
