Burkina Faso’s SOTRACO Expands Bus Network to Kaya

Kaya: Kaya will soon be served by buses from the Ouagadougou Public Transport Company (SOTRACO). This information was announced during an information and awareness-raising meeting for stakeholders in the city known for its leather and kebabs, held at the Coura Coura.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the meeting was organized by SOTRACO, allowing mobility stakeholders and senior company officials to examine, amend, and validate the configuration of the new bus network in the city of Kaya and its surroundings to ensure its efficiency and accessibility.

Following discussions, five urban bus routes and one inter-municipal route serving the municipalities of Kaya, Boussouma, and Korsimoro were defined. SOTRACO's Director General, Drissa Sawadogo, announced that these routes will be operational from the beginning of 2026, facilitated by the deployment of approximately ten buses. Sawadogo emphasized the transport sector's role in economic growth and social cohesion.

The initiative is driven by the political will of the government, aiming to provide a sustainable and effective response to the growing needs of the population for urban public transport. The Secretary General of the Centre-North region, Bernadette Adenyo/Serme, stated that this initiative aligns with the presidential program for quality education and the Head of State's vision to improve living conditions through better urban mobility.

Fran§ois Baloum, president of the Sandbondtenga provincial branch of the Burkina Faso Consumers' League (LCB), praised the initiative as necessary for Kaya. He highlighted the benefits of public transport in Kaya, including freedom of movement, lower costs, and enhanced safety, while expressing hopes for future expansion to other municipalities.
