Burkina: The government calls for mobilization to succeed in national citizenship week

The ministry in charge of justice called, on Thursday, the Burkinabè to mobilize massively around the activities of the 20th edition of the National Citizenship Week (SENAC) which will take place from October 23 to 27 to promote moral and civic values.

“The increase in acts of incivility and violence which undermines living together and social cohesion reminds us of the importance of continuing the dynamic of promoting active and constructive citizenship in the service of sustainable development,” declared the representative of the Minister in charge of Justice, Harouna Kadio, Secretary General (SG) of the said department.

Mr. Kadio also called on the population of Burkina Faso to mobilize massively around the activities dedicated to them during the 20th edition of the National Citizenship Week (SENAC) scheduled for October 23 to 27, 2023 in the 13 regions of the country.

The SG of the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, responsible for relations with institutions, was in Ouagadougou on Thursday, facing journalists as a prelude to the organization of SENAC 2023 which will be held under the theme “Citizenship in action for the reconquest of the integrity of the national territory.

According to Harouna Kadio, SENAC not only constitutes a framework for information and awareness, but also for advocacy and questioning of all national actors at different levels on the importance of taking into account civic values. and citizenship.

Listening to it, it offers the opportunity to each Burkinabè to stop and symbolically express their citizenship and their attachment to their homeland.

The representative of the head of the department in charge of Justice indicated that certain achievements had been made during previous editions of SENAC.

For Mr. Kadio, this involves, among other things, strengthening citizen awareness at all levels, the culture of human rights, the rule of law, and the reduction of violent demonstrations in schools.

He also specified that acts of vandalism and destruction of public and private property have seen a decline with the organization of SENAC.

“Despite these significant advances, the fact remains that even today, the challenges remain enormous and pressing, in particular, in a very worrying security context, where the values of citizenship are put to the test”, he argued.

In his opinion, various activities will be on the program for the 20th edition of SENAC such as open days on Burkinabe justice for the benefit of displaced people, conferences on citizenship.

Harouna Kadio also noted that the week will be punctuated by a competition on civics in post-primary and secondary schools, citizen actions (sanitation action), displays of color and respect for State symbols, etc.

Since 2004, the ministry in charge of human rights and the promotion of citizenship has organized SENAC, for the respect of moral and civic values in Burkina Faso.
