Burkina: The Hounde Gold Operation mine trains its local suppliers

The mining company Houndé Gold Operation (HGO) organized, on Tuesday, in Houndé, a training for the benefit of its local suppliers of goods and services on the procedures of supply and contract with the aim of better applying for the markets of the mine .

As part of its local content promotion policy, the Houndé Gold Operation (HGO) mine, a subsidiary of the Endeavor mining group, initiated on Tuesday July 4, 2023, a capacity building training for the benefit of local suppliers.

To this end, more than 120 entrepreneurs from Tuy (Houndé), in the Hauts-Bassins region, have been provided with tools on supply and contract procedures, in order to better seize business opportunities at the mine.

The opening ceremony was chaired by the high commissioner of the province, Issiaka Segda, who is also chairman of the Monitoring and Liaison Committee (CSL) for the Tuy mining projects.

For Mr. Segda, this training is an opportunity for suppliers to develop their capacity to better meet the requirements of HGO's markets.

He continued that it will also resolve cases of misunderstandings relating to mine markets.

For HGO's Managing Director (CEO), Adama Savadogo, it's about bringing current and potential local suppliers to the mine together so they understand the bidding process but also its compliance obligations.

According to him, this activity is in line with the policy of the Endeavor Mining group in terms of local purchases, but also with the policy of the Burkinabè government, through the decree establishing the list of goods and services provided to companies. mining.

Mr. Savadogo indicated that local purchases of the mine increased in 2017, from 81 million FCFA to 4.5 billion FCFA at the end of 2022 for the Hauts-Bassins region which inhabits the mine and from 1 billion FCFA to almost 100 billion CFA francs at the national level.

The training session was attended by the ministry in charge of mines represented by a delegation led by its director of legal affairs and litigation, Tousma Gilbert Dodbzanga.

The delegation was responsible for explaining the details of the texts relating to local content to the participants. Mr. Dodbzanga welcomed HGO's initiative to promote local content.

According to him, the regulatory texts that govern the mining sector aim to promote transparency. "The concept ''local'' as defined by the decree on local content means ''national''", he nuanced.

During this day, the participants reviewed various topics including the mine's requirements in terms of health and safety, the decree on local content and its implementing order, the rights and duties of subcontractors in terms of payment of taxes.

Other communications such as HGO's local procurement strategy, bidding process, process for purchasing and setting up businesses in HGO's system, and conducting 2022 local procurement and business plan. HGO's 2023 supply was presented.

This was followed by the phase of exchanges and The questions and contributions of the participants as well as the answers provided enabled the experiences of the various actors to be shared.

At the end of the work, the chairman of the CSL/Tuy purchasing and local services sub-committee, Bèmi Boni expressed his satisfaction with the content of the topics discussed. For him, this training was “very enriching”.
