Ouagadougou: The Prime Minister organized a public conference on Wednesday, aimed at drawing lessons from the Sankarist Revolution (1983-1987), in particular the organization and involvement of the people around major development projects, noted the AIB.
The Prime Minister’s chief of staff, Ferdinand Ouédraogo chaired Wednesday morning in Ouagadougou on behalf of the head of government Apollinaire Joachimson Kyelem de Tambéla, the opening ceremony of the public conference on the National Days of Patriotic Commitment and Citizen Participation, launched on March 25 by the President of the Transition, Captain Ibrahim Traoré.
The public conference aims, according to him, ‘to learn lessons from what happened during the Revolution, to enrich ourselves with these lessons in order to move forward’.
Mr. Ouédraogo stressed that the conference will be marked by ‘free debates in order to raise questions, questions with the aim of capitalizing on everything that happened at the time of the revolution and even before an
d which reflect patriotic commitments’.
‘Patriotic commitment is a civic commitment. Everything that we take as a responsible act which today allows society to move forward, to create balance, to establish peace, security, which allows Burkina Faso to be more prosperous, to have more well-being, these are patriotic commitments,’ he explained .
After the opening ceremony, communications were presented as well as contributions on the revolutionary period of President Thomas Sankara from 1983 to 1987.
Special advisor to the Prime Minister Luc Damiba presented his communication under the theme “Review of the experiences of patriotic commitments in the history of Burkina Faso’.
In his communication, Mr. Damiba listed the patriotic commitments before and during colonization and under the era of the 1983 revolution.
We note that before colonization, populations had modes of social and community which consisted of doing field work and concession construction together, among other things.
Under colonization, the
Voltaic populations carried out forced labor, suffered the poll tax and carried out major works such as dams, schools and roads, all under duress, said panelist Damiba.
In the opinion of Luc Damiba, the revolutionary experience of 1983 liberated the Voltaic and then Burkinabe man and woman, organized the people and developed hard work.
The national days of patriotic commitment and citizen participation were established on November 22, 2023 by the Council of Ministers. They are scheduled to be held on March 26 and October 2 each year for two weeks.
During the launch of these days on Monday, March 25 night on national television, President Ibrahim Traoré affirmed that the Government established these Days with a view to consolidating the foundations of the Burkinabè Nation and strengthening social cohesion and living together.
The choice of the first date refers to the political commitment of the hero of the nation, President Thomas Sankara who delivered one of his historic speeches, ‘Who are the enemies of
the people?’, on March 26, 1983 when he was Prime Minister .
The second date of the national days of patriotic commitment and citizen participation is October 2, the same day when in 1983, President Thomas Sankara delivered the Political Orientation Speech (DOP) of the Democratic and Popular Revolution.
