Burkina: UNDP supports security forces with 22 pick-up vehicles

The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) offered Thursday, 22 pick-ups worth 415 million 171 thousand 210 FCFA for the benefit of the National Police and the National Gendarmerie for fight against terrorism.

The United Nations Development Program (UNDP), through the Liptako-Gourma Regional Stabilization Facility project, Fenêtre Burkina Faso, offered the Burkinabè security forces 22 4×4, single-cabin vehicles, in order to to strengthen the capacities of the National Police and the Gendarmerie.

The donation estimated at a value of 415 million 171 thousand 210 FCFA was handed over Thursday, during a ceremony, to the Minister Delegate in charge of Security, Mahamadou Sana.

Mr. Sana, who spoke Thursday in Ouagadougou, reiterated these encouragements to the defense and security forces, particularly the National Police and the National Gendarmerie, "who work night and day so that peace returns to our dear homeland."

He also added that this donation, which is part of the strengthening of the operational capacities of the internal security forces, particularly the logistical component, will contribute to the achievement of stabilization and development objectives.

“The UNDP in Burkina Faso, through the Regional Stabilization Facility, was willing to make its contribution to strengthening the operational capacities of the Internal Security Forces by providing rolling resources,” indicated the representative of the UNDP in Burkina Faso. Alfredo Teixeira.

He added that these 22 vehicles ordered by the UNDP constitute a second batch which will be transferred to the Ministry of Security following the first transfer of eight (8) vehicles last April.

“The German contribution of the program to the stabilization facility in the three countries of intervention which are Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger is estimated at 28.8 million euros or more than 18 billion 900 million francs CFA for the duration of the program from 2020 until the end of 2024,” informed the Charge d’affaires of Germany, Dr. Bernd von Munchow-Pohl.

He concluded by indicating that through the Stabilization Facility for the Liptako-Gourma region, UNDP will work to mobilize its national and international partners and broaden the scope of partnerships focused on strengthening state authority. and the protection of civilian populations.
