Koudougou:Nando The 'Pagb yidgr soor' communication campaign aimed at promoting women's entrepreneurship was officially launched in the Nando region. This initiative is set to run until October 29, targeting the economic empowerment of women across the regions of Nando, Yaadga, and Kouls.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the campaign's launch took place at Koudougou town hall, gathering traditional and administrative authorities. Michel Ouaba, coordinator of the SWEDD+ project, outlined the initiative's goals, which include enhancing women's roles in the economy through sectors such as agriculture and trade.
The campaign will be conducted in ten communes, including Koudougou, Kokologho, and Ro in Nando; Ouahigouya, Oula, Gourcy, and Yako in Yaadga; and Kaya, Korsimoro, and Boussouma in Kouls. Recent data from the Business Formalities Centres (CEFORE) indicate that out of 22,829 businesses created in 2024, only 4,742, or about 20.77%, were established by women. Ouaba highlighted that this low figure stems from challenges in securing subsidies and access to land, rather than a lack of initiative or skills.
Supported by the World Bank and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the program aims to provide financial assistance, training, and health services access. Over 1,500 women have already received training in various trades, with a goal to reach 6,000 beneficiaries and provide 3,000 installation kits.
The campaign intends to raise awareness among two million people about available support and training. It will engage 360 leaders, 2,000 community members, and ten financial institutions to address financing and land access barriers. Additionally, it will promote women's health with free screenings for HIV/AIDS and other conditions.
Lucien Guengur, Secretary General of the Nando region, expressed gratitude to the partners involved in the SWEDD+ project. The Health Development Support Program (PADS) is implementing the project with input from various government departments. The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Ministry of Family and Solidarity, is leading the campaign.
Presentations during the launch focused on women's entrepreneurship and its role in national sovereignty. Two female entrepreneurs shared their journeys from challenging beginnings to becoming successful business leaders and trainers.
