Sandbontenga: The NGO CARE organized a workshop in Kaya to review and capitalize on a project aimed at strengthening food and nutritional security for internally displaced persons (IDPs) and host communities in the Koulse region. The project, which started on December 1, 2024, and is set to conclude on January 31, 2026, was implemented over 14 months in the municipalities of Kaya and Boussouma.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the initiative was funded by Latter-Day Saints Charities (LDSC) and executed by CARE International. It encompassed tailored food assistance, the provision of agricultural inputs, capacity building in nutritional practices, and the prevention and management of malnutrition in health facilities. The closing workshop, held on January 20, 2026, was chaired by Idrissa Gamsonre, the High Commissioner of Sandbontenga province, and included beneficiaries, technical service representatives, and project actors.
Dr. Jean-Marie Zongo, CARE's national coordinator, highlighted that the project successfully addressed the urgent needs of vulnerable populations. He praised the achievement of its objectives based on various indicators and expressed optimism for the initiative's renewal. Dr. Zongo also urged stakeholders to build on the progress made.
High Commissioner Gamsonre emphasized the project's alignment with state policies and reiterated the authorities' commitment to supporting similar initiatives in the future. He invited stakeholders to recognize the achievements as "solid, useful and promising."
Beneficiaries of the project expressed widespread satisfaction. Kieni Tipoko Mariam, an IDP beneficiary, shared her gratitude, noting that the support significantly contributed to her socio-economic recovery. Many participants echoed her sentiments, thanking the project partners for their assistance.
