Ouahigouya: Catholic faithful give thanks to the Virgin Mary on the Marian hill of Saye. Monsignor Justin Kient©ga and all the sons and daughters of the Church-Family of God from the parishes of Our Lady of Deliverance and Christ the King of the Universe of Ouahigouya commemorated the feast of the Assumption this Friday, August 15, 2025, at the Marian shrine of Saye.
According to Burkina Information Agency, it was amidst the rain this morning on Saye hill in Ouahigouya that the people of the Church-Family of God from the two parishes of the city of Naaba Kango gathered to celebrate the feast of the Assumption. The faithful, coming from the parishes and related centers, converged towards the Notre Dame de Saye sanctuary after a hiatus of four years due to insecurity. Through songs, dances, praises, and recitations of the rosary, they climbed the hill for the Eucharistic celebration of the Ascension of the Virgin Mary into heaven.
In his homily, the Bishop of the Diocese of Ouahigouya, Mgr Justin Kient©ga, expressed gratitude to the Lord for allowing the gathering. He emphasized that celebrating the Assumption is an invitation for Catholics to emulate Mary, who became the mother of God through obedience to God's word. Mgr Kient©ga encouraged the faithful to aspire to be like Mary, a symbol of faith, hope, charity, and love. He urged them to approach her with humility, seeking her guidance towards holiness and the heavenly Kingdom.
The celebration also marked special occasions, with ten children being baptized and a Catholic couple renewing their marriage sacrament after 50 years of union.
