Johannesburg: The Catholic faithful of Saint Alphonsus Parish in Manni celebrated the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary on Sunday with particular fervor, offering prayers for peace in Manni and Burkina Faso. The Eucharistic celebration, presided over by the parish priest, Father Paulin Mano, was a powerful moment of communion and thanksgiving, concluding a nine-day novena for peace.
According to Burkina Information Agency, having arrived in Manni during the week, Father Paulin Mano enabled the Christian community to experience the Eucharistic celebration in connection with the solemnity of the Assumption, following the celebration of the Word of God conducted on August 15 by the catechists, in the absence of the priest.
For nine days, the faithful had intensified their prayers through this novena, entrusting to God their families, their community, Manni and Burkina Faso. From dawn on Sunday, Christians gathered at the Marian grotto for the recitation of the rosary, followed by a Marian procession leading the faithful to the place of the Eucharistic celebration.
The solemn mass was enlivened by the Sainte-Ccile choir of Manni, which punctuated the different liturgical moments with songs of praise and thanksgiving, Marian hymns, the Litany of the Saints and acclamations in honor of the Virgin Mary. In his homily, Father Paulin Mano urged the faithful to persevere in prayer, especially for peace, inviting them to deepen their devotion to the Virgin Mary, model of faith and attentive mother, whose intercession leads believers to her Son, Jesus Christ.
Based on Mary's place in the Christian faith and on the testimony of Marian apparitions recognized by the Church, the priest encouraged the faithful to turn with confidence to her, asking for her maternal intercession with God, especially for peace and the protection of families. Following the homily, the president of the Parish Council of Lay People, Lankoand Emmanuel, welcomed the priest, happy to have him back in his community. He also extended his best wishes for the feast day to all the faithful and offered prayers for peace in Manni and Burkina Faso, inviting everyone to remain united in faith and hope.
The atmosphere remained fraternal after the mass, with the faithful extending the joy of the celebration with songs and acclamations in honor of the Virgin Mary, in a convivial atmosphere. This celebration of the Assumption was thus, for the Catholic community of Manni, a time of prayer, thanksgiving, fraternal communion and hope, with peace as the major intention carried by the faithful throughout the novena and the celebration.
