Ouagadougou: A mission from the Ministry of Homeland Construction, led by Secretary General Commander Ollo Palenfo, visited Ouahigouya to assess the progress of the Secondary Cities Mobility and Urban Development Project (PMDUVS) following heavy rainfall in the area.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the PMDUVS for Ouahigouya was officially launched on May 14, 2025, with an implementation timeline of 12 months, excluding the rainy season. The project, expected to be completed by July 2026, aims to construct 30 kilometers of drainage ditches, clean existing ones, and illuminate 10 kilometers of streets with funding from the World Bank totaling approximately 14 billion CFA francs. The visit by Commander Ollo Palenfo was an effort to understand the project’s progress and challenges.
The first stop for the delegation, which included administrative officials, technicians, and media members, was the bridge under construction on National Route 15. This bridge connects sectors 1 and 15 of Ouahigouya. Heavy rain on June 5th and 6th had disrupted construction work. The subsequent drop in water level revealed that a temporary diversion set up for the construction had been submerged, affecting the work’s progression.
Val©ry Ou©draogo, head of the monitoring mission, stated that they established a temporary diversion to restore traffic on the RN15 and continue construction as planned. The construction company’s top officials assured that the structure remains intact despite the weather-related setbacks.
The inspection tour covered all project sites to assess the work’s quality and progress. Secretary General Ollo Palenfo expressed satisfaction with the project’s 70% completion rate, despite challenges like aggregate supply issues. He emphasized the importance of maintaining work quality and meeting contractual deadlines to benefit Ouahigouya’s residents.
Commander Palenfo urged the public to avoid damaging the stormwater drainage systems and called on local authorities to encourage better hygiene and sanitation practices. He left the visit satisfied but stressed the need for vigilance to ensure successful project completion.
Lazare Kambir©, Director General of ABTP, the company responsible for part of the work, received Palenfo’s recommendations positively and committed to intensifying efforts to complete their work successfully.
The PMDUVS, initiated in 2025 by Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ou©draogo, is financed by the World Bank and benefits the cities of Bobo-Dioulasso, Kaya, and Ouahigouya.
