New York:Foreign ministers from the Confederation of Sahel States convened on September 21, 2026, in New York to align their diplomatic strategies and protect their shared interests during the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the meeting was chaired by Karamoko Jean Marie Traor, Burkina Faso's Minister of Foreign Affairs. It focused on reviewing the session's agenda and establishing a unified approach for the delegations of the three member countries.

The aim of the consultation was to strengthen diplomatic coordination among the Confederation's member states, enabling them to present a unified stance at the United Nations General Assembly.

This initiative is a key component of the Year II roadmap for the Confederation of Sahel States, particularly under its "Diplomacy" pillar. Minister Traor emphasized the importance of consolidating the AES Confederation and correcting narratives about their region.

The UN General Assembly session officially commenced on September 22, 2026, with the Confederation of Sahel States planning to advocate for the aspirations and visions of its peoples and leaders. Prior to the tripartite meeting, the Burkinabe delegation held discussions at their Permanent Mission in New York.
