Abuja: The High Council for Communication (CSC), in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), launched a training and awareness workshop for journalists and web activists on Monday, July 27, in Koudougou. The focus of the workshop is on the responsible management of information during times of crisis.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the session, which is scheduled from July 27 to 29, 2026, brings together media professionals and social media participants from various regions of Burkina Faso. The aim is to address the challenges of crisis communication amidst ongoing security, social, and humanitarian issues.
Presiding over the ceremony, CSC President Wendingoudi Louis Modeste Ou©draogo highlighted the importance of crisis communication for media professionals. He stressed that in a climate where rumors and misinformation spread quickly, journalists and digital content creators have a significant role in maintaining social cohesion and peace. He urged participants to uphold professionalism, precision, and ethical standards.
Ou©draogo pointed out that the CSC had previously organized a seminar on communication during security crises between 2016 and 2017. However, given the evolving national context and the changing landscape of information dissemination, there is a need to refresh the knowledge and practices of those in the sector.
The workshop aims to enhance participants' skills in areas such as information gathering and verification, conflict-sensitive communication, and the fight against disinformation and information manipulation.
Representing local authorities, the President of the Koudougou Special Delegation (PDS), Am©d©e Par©, welcomed attendees to the city known as the Red Rider. He praised the CSC's initiative and the support from UNDP, expressing hope that the training would foster responsible communication that promotes peace, social cohesion, and development.
Par© noted that choosing Koudougou to host the event reflects trust in the local authorities and the community's commitment to coexistence.
Throughout the three-day workshop, participants will engage with experts on best journalistic practices during crises, the media's social responsibility, and strategies to prevent disinformation.
This initiative reflects the CSC and its partners' dedication to fostering a free, responsible, and professional media landscape that can effectively support the resilience of communities facing current challenges in Burkina Faso.
