Ouagadougou: The CT-CPSA wants to strengthen food support for returning populations in the province. The High Commissioner of the province of Loroum, Captain Djibril Bassol, presided over the first session of the year 2026 of the Technical Committee of the Provincial Food Security Council (CT-CPSA) of Loroum, focused on evaluating the food and nutritional situation of the area and developing strategies to mobilize resources for the returning populations.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the session, held on September 8, 2026, in Titao, revolved around the theme "Implementation of the national humanitarian response plan in the Yaadga region: what resource mobilization strategy for strengthening the resilience to food and nutritional insecurity of returnees?". The meeting, chaired by Captain Bassol, brought together statutory members to discuss food and nutrition challenges, identify difficulties, and propose recommendations to better address the needs of vulnerable populations.
The provincial director of Family and National Solidarity, Lassan Tao, outlined the humanitarian situation, noting the steady return of displaced persons due to efforts to reclaim national territory. "On the assistance side, the support of the State and its partners has made it possible to mobilize 5,638.024 tonnes of food and nutritional aid for the benefit of 161,330 people, hosts and IDPs, distributed in 28,809 households," he stated. The food assistance requirements for vulnerable populations in Loroum for 2026 are estimated at 21,390.31 tonnes.
In the agricultural and livestock sector, a mid-term review of the 2025-2026 rainy season revealed unsatisfactory conditions. The senior livestock technician, representing Raoul Zongo, highlighted that the amount of rain in 2026 was significantly lower than in 2025. The province recorded 23 rains as of September 7, 2026, compared to 31 in 2025, with cumulative rainfall amounting to 419.5 mm in 2026 against 673 mm in the previous year.
For the 2026-2027 agricultural campaign, the State has subsidized 18,800 kg of seeds, including sorghum, millet, maize, irrigated rice, cowpea, sesame, and peanut. This aid also facilitated the acquisition of 199.4 tonnes of fertilizer and plowing of 72 hectares of arable land for Loroum's producers.
Dr. Rapha«l Zoundi, the chief medical officer of the Titao health district, presented the nutritional situation, reporting that screening and treatment activities for malnourished children have reached a rate of 30.07%, attributed to various factors. The High Commissioner identified challenges like access to inputs and poor monitoring of care for malnourished children by some mothers as barriers to achieving nutrition objectives.
Saidou Niampa, president of the civil society organizations (CSOs) of Loroum, emphasized that the session helped stakeholders comprehend the humanitarian situation in the province. He urged partners in the humanitarian sector to enhance coordination to improve support for the population. "We are advocating for the NGOs and associations that support us to carry out concerted actions so that the various donations can be used for the benefit of the people," Niampa stressed.
