Ouagadougou: The municipal pitch in Brgadougou was the scene of an emotionally charged football match as FFCB emerged victorious in the grand final of the Maracana tournament held in memory of Pon Abdoul Ouattara, a gendarme who tragically lost his life in July 2026. The event, presided over by Mahamadi Sawadogo, president of the Brgadougou special delegation, saw FFCB face off against 18 heures 30 FC in a match that captivated the local community.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the tournament, which kicked off on August 9th, witnessed the participation of 14 teams, drawing numerous football aficionados from the town. The competition was a realization of a vision that Pon Abdoul Ouattara had cherished: to foster unity among the youth through the sport of football.

The final match was fiercely contested, with FFCB showing early initiative in the first half, frequently threatening the opposition's goal. Despite their aggressive play, 18:30 FC's defense held strong, successfully fending off several attacks. The dynamics shifted in the second half as 18:30 FC increased their offensive efforts, intensifying the game. Both teams created numerous opportunities, but the goalkeepers' vigilance ensured a goalless draw at the end of regular time.

The outcome was decided by a penalty shootout, where FFCB triumphed, securing the trophy for this inaugural edition. The victory was celebrated exuberantly by their supporters, who revelled in their team's success.

In recognition of their win, FFCB was awarded the trophy, jerseys, a ball, medals, 55,000 FCFA, and 5 kg bags of cornmeal for each player. The runners-up, 18 heures 30 FC, received 30,000 FCFA, medals, a ball, and 5 kg bags of cornmeal per player.

Mahamadi Sawadogo highlighted the significance of the event beyond its sporting aspect, emphasizing its role in fostering unity and community cohesion. He urged for the continued promotion of values such as discipline, courage, solidarity, and selflessness among the youth, particularly in the current context of Burkina Faso.
