Cuban Foreign Minister Condemns New US Sanctions as Economic Strangulation

Baku:Ouagadougou Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla has reaffirmed Cuba's determination to defend its sovereignty against American pressure. He emphasized that Washington's attempts to subjugate Cuba are destined to fail.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the foreign minister's statement was made in reaction to new sanctions announced by the American administration. Rodriguez Parrilla criticized these measures, asserting that they aim to stifle Cuba's economy and inflict maximum harm on its population. He expressed that the U.S. government's actions reflect an unwillingness to heed the voices of its own citizens, opting instead for blockade measures against Cuba.

Rodriguez Parrilla further highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by the Cuban people, citing an unprecedented tightening of the economic blockade by the United States over the past ten months. This includes an energy embargo akin to a naval blockade and the implementation of secondary sanctions against entities engaging in commerce with Cuba. He described the U.S. strategy as an obsessive war aiming to economically strangle Cuba, reaching inhumane levels of collective punishment.

On November 5, 2026, the U.S. administration unveiled new sanctions targeting individuals and entities in various sectors of the Cuban economy, including production, technology, electronics, and maritime activities. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio specified that the restrictions were directed at members of the Cuban elite, individuals suspected of involvement in oil transportation, and Cuban arms suppliers based in China. The sanctions affect a total of eight organizations, two individuals, and five ships.
