Dori: The municipality of Dori has taken a significant step in reinforcing its preparedness for potential humanitarian crises by adopting a comprehensive contingency plan valued at over 500 million FCFA.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this strategic document was developed by the Dori Departmental Council for Emergency Relief and Rehabilitation (CODESUR) with technical guidance from the Permanent Secretariat of the National Council for Emergency Relief and Rehabilitation (SP/CONASUR). The head of the studies and statistics department of SP/CONASUR, Jules Zongo, noted that the initiative commenced with intensive training sessions aimed at equipping CODESUR members in Dori.

The training modules focused on vital aspects such as risk and disaster management, coordination mechanisms, early warning tools, and humanitarian response procedures. Following the completion of the training, participants moved forward to develop and validate the municipality's contingency plan.

The allocated budget is designated for several key areas, including the establishment of emergency stocks, ongoing training for personnel, enhancement of communication and alert systems, as well as community sanitation and prevention initiatives. Mr. Zongo commended the dedication of CODESUR and local stakeholders throughout the process.

Acknowledging the support from technical and financial partners, particularly the NGO Help and its implementing partner, the Fraternal Union of Believers (UFC), Mr. Zongo emphasized the importance of keeping the plan active and not letting it fall into disuse. He urged stakeholders to ensure its broad dissemination, advocate for resource mobilization, and seamlessly integrate the plan into routine risk management practices.

With this contingency plan, Dori is making a decisive move towards effective preparedness and management of humanitarian crises. It is now incumbent upon local stakeholders to sustain the momentum and guarantee the plan's active implementation.
