Ouagadougou: On the sidelines of the national youth championship, the president of the Burkinabe Football Federation (FBF), Oumarou Sawadogo, held a meeting on Sunday, July 12, 2026, in Bobo-Dioulasso with officials from the Guiriko Regional Football League (LRFG) and presidents of local clubs.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the meeting aimed to review the functioning of the Regional League, assess the actions undertaken, and examine the overall state of Burkinabe football. Discussions included the prospects for football development and challenges facing the clubs, with a significant focus on financial resources and grants awarded to clubs.
The FBF president addressed concerns regarding financial support, announcing the continuation of grants while indicating potential changes in their form. 'The Federation's initial aim was to review our investments in Ouagadougou. Then, we discussed future prospects and the crucial issue of scholarships. There are concerns; some are wondering whether the scholarship will be renewed or discontinued. What is certain is that there is no definitive answer yet, but in the outlook, the scholarship will be maintained, perhaps in a different form,' stated Oumarou Sawadogo.
Gabriel Kouka Yameogo, president of the Guiriko Regional Football League, praised the initiative, welcoming the consultation process as a means to strengthen dialogue between the governing body and regional football stakeholders.
