Ouagadougou: Four villages in the Sanaba commune, heavily involved in charcoal production, each received 150 seedlings as part of the national reforestation campaign, aimed at restoring their vegetation cover. The planting of these seedlings began on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, in the village of Berenkui, in the presence of the head of the water and forestry department, Mathieu Bamogo, and his team.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the four beneficiary villages are Berenkui, Yenkuy, Kounla, and Pªkuy. The official start of the planting of these seedlings took place on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, in Berenkui, in the presence of the head of the water and forestry post, Mathieu Bamogo, and his team.

Armed with picks, hoes, and other tools, the residents of Berenkui participated in planting seedlings in the village forest located on the road to Kounla. This mobilization reflects the communities' commitment to restoring forest resources in areas where charcoal production, while an important economic activity, also contributes to the degradation of vegetation. The tree species planted were melina, eucalyptus, and baobab.

The head of the water and forestry department, Mathieu Bamogo, took advantage of the community's mobilization to raise awareness about the environmental consequences of excessive logging and charcoal production. He urged them to protect newly planted trees and adopt behaviors that promote the preservation of forest resources.

The chiefs of the various villages welcomed these awareness messages. They praised the initiative and pledged their commitment to implementing the recommendations of the forestry officials, particularly regarding the protection and maintenance of the seedlings.

Following Berenkui, the planting operation will continue in the other beneficiary villages in the coming days. This campaign presents an opportunity to gradually restore vegetation cover, combat forest degradation, and strengthen environmental protection in the Sanaba commune.
